A Long and Profitable Ride

Our regular Wednesday nights are almost upon us, and I want to give y’all a taste of what I will be covering in our midweek study. If God allows, I will be teaching on each of the books of the Bible in what is traditionally called a survey format. This means the study will be at least sixty-six weeks, which is the number of books found within God’s Word. In all likelihood, it will be longer because of missionary visits, special events, holidays, and the longer books needing more than one week. In other words, we better buckle up! It’s gonna’ take us a while, but the ride will be well worth it!

All Scripture is breathed out by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness, that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work
— 2 Timothy 3:16-17

It’s an oft-quoted piece of Scripture but underutilized. All Scripture is not only given by God but also profitable. How is it profitable? That we may be complete and equipped. Now for the convicting part. How many books of the Bible can you name? Can you summarize how Christ is revealed and what it means for Christians in each of those books? Can you ponder and discuss these major themes with your families, spouses, or yourself privately? My hope with this Wednesday night study is to bolster y’all’s confidence in all of these things.

Taking the Bible book by book, we will travel through God’s revealed will to His people. We will see the highs and lows, the hurt and hope, and the solid steadfast continuity of our magnificent God in revealing the means by which we can be saved. It will by no means be exhaustive of all the riches God’s Word has to offer, but my prayer is that tools will be acquired, senses sharpened, and interests piqued—and all for God’s glory! Notebooks will be provided along with one-page handouts for each book of the Bible that we cover. Upon completion, our Centennial church family will have a resource to aid in family worship, Bible study, and general and private study.

Are you not able make it on Wednesdays? Are you already participating in another study that night? Are you singing in the choir or leading and volunteering with our youth? Don’t worry! Extra notebooks will be available with the appropriate one-page handouts. The tech savvy members of Centennial are even setting up to record the lessons, so never fear! If you can’t make it or miss one, you’re covered! With just a few clicks, you’ll be able to listen to the lesson on our website. After that, all you’ll need to do is pick up your printout the following Sunday or Wednesday.

This is a large undertaking but will be highly profitable for us. Will y’all pray for this endeavor as we come to the starting line? May God be glorified as we see what His Word in its entirety has for us. May we take to heart 2 Timothy 3:16-17, and may we rightly seek to be complete and equipped in this life and the life to come. Blessings to each of you.
