Devotionals Are Never Done!

For everything there is a season, and a time for every matter under heaven
— Ecclesiastes 3:1

Dearest Centennial Family (and others we’ve adopted along the way!), you find yourself reading the last of the Covid-19 written devotions.

As I put that sentence onto the page, several things come to my mind and heart.

The first is care. Dear Christian, if you have been relying on these written devotionals, do not fear about missing them! Contact the Centennial Church’s office (the number is on our website), and I can talk you through a number of lovely “daily devotional” style publications.

The second is burden. From the beginning of my tenure at Centennial, my goal was to have a Word-centered ministry. At the expense of other things, I can say with confidence that I have maintained this emphasis throughout this first part of the “next normal” we now face due to covid-19. But I also have many other duties that burden my heart for the flock here at Centennial. Just as things “open” back up, so my duties also “open” back up. My heart seeks after God, and God is found in his Word. I hope that each of you who have “stuck it out” with me in this endeavor have seen the Holy Spirit do his work in your heart, just as he did a work in mine in the process!

The third is relief. As I mentioned above, when it seemed all things “locked down” in the spring, the Session and I had a great and strong desire to keep Centennial in the Word as best as we were able. This was the beginning of the devotion era! As we now transition into the fall, I praise God for the time I had in writing so much of God’s goodness onto paper, but I also now praise God for a finish and transition!

The fourth is an encouragement. Indeed, there is a time and season for all things, but God and his Word are timeless. In other words, God and his Word is meant for all times and all seasons, for only Jesus Christ and his work can give us what we need for success in this life! My strong hope and prayer is that this time has stirred you into a realization of the life-changing Word we have so readily available. Dear Christian, read the Word, pray the Word, love the Word, and renew your love for the Word every day of your life until the Lord Jesus returns again.

God’s blessings on each of you, and deepest regards from a humble “daily devotion” pastor,

Jeremiah
