Sweet Gifts From God

I have stored up your word in my heart,
that I might not sin against you.
— Psalm 119:11

Psalm 119 is a wonderful treasure trove in the Bible. It’s a love poem to God about God’s Word to his people. It is highly structured, encompassing beautiful Hebrew style poetry. But more importantly, like the rest of the Bible, it clearly reveals God.

Here are 6 gifts from God that even one verse from Psalm 119 (v. 11) reveals to his people:

  1. The gift of the Word—If the psalmist has the capability to store God’s Word in his heart, that means God has given us his Word.

  2. The gift of relationship—If the psalmist can sin against God, it means a relationship exists between Divinity and humanity.

  3. The gift of heart—If the psalmist’s intention is to store God’s Word in his heart, it means there is an existence of something beyond simple intellect (mind).

  4. The gift of capability—Since the Psalmist is storing in the first place, it means God has granted humanity the capability to do so (at a soul level).

  5. The gift of the Gospel—Through the psalmist’s storage of God’s Word, a right relationship can be formed with God (rather than the wrong one we all naturally have). This is Good News!

  6. The gift of righteousness—Through the gifts of God, the psalmist now has the opportunity to not sin, which implies a life of right living before God (righteousness!).

Through God’s Word, humanity is notified that a relationship with God is possible, which requires a heart level (soul level) belief, but that heart level belief can only come through a God given capability, which is the start of the Gospel of Jesus Christ that leads to a life of righteousness forevermore.

And that’s from one verse! Think on these things today, and praise God for his many gifts to humanity!

Blessings,

Jeremiah
