God Gives Us A Place For Us to Meet Him Face-to-Face

And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters.” And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so. And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day.
— Genesis 1:6-8
  • And God said, “Let there be an expanse in the midst of the waters, and let it separate the waters from the waters… With intentionality, God creates, and this can be seen through the days of creation. On the first day, it is apparent that “time” as we know it begins. The clock starts ticking—day in and day out. Alongside of time is the inception of “sight” due to light. But what is to be seen? Enter the second day and the “expanse.” With the power to place his creation where he will, God makes a spot for what is to come, which is the world as humanity knows it.

  • And God made the expanse and separated the waters that were under the expanse from the waters that were above the expanse. And it was so… One can have immense intentionality, but without power, nothing will happen. Yet again, God reveals his power. Out of nothing comes something (God made the expanse). And then that something is placed. With the power to create and the power to place, God shows himself wholly capable of completing his will.

  • And God called the expanse Heaven. And there was evening and there was morning, the second day… This process of creation is revealing God’s intentionality and power on behalf of his children yet unborn. There is now a “place between” for his ultimate creation of humanity to inhabit. Time began the day before, but what good is time for the Day and the Night? Sight was born when light was born, but waters will never see. God’s Fatherly care and revelation was never meant for these lesser creations. Once born, these things were meant to draw humanity to the beautiful conclusion of the existence of an all-powerful, absolutely intentional, “place-giving” God.

The heavens declare the glory of God,
and
the expanse proclaims his handiwork.
